My partner and I started an online shop in 2014 with a simple desire to create comfortable, gender neutral T-shirts we like, with good materials. We were fortunate to get featured on local media on our debut. It was a personal hobby then, and day jobs slowly occupied our mind and life. Unconsciously, the creation part of me was somewhat left behind.
I gifted a small handmade cotton baby blanket to my friend who just became a mom in 2023. She reminded me that I used to have a shop which felt like in another lifetime. As I am making natural cotton baby burp cloths and bibs for my closed circle, seeing the pictures of babies using my handmade items with big smiles, I was overwhelmed with joy in sharing what I studied for materials, and what I created to better care for people I like. I thought I could spread this joy by resuming my shop.
I created the body butter for a pregnant friend who was troubled with pregnancy rash. It helped her fully recover after using it for a month. I am not a chemist by any means and sure there are a myriad of factors in how our bodies recover. What we could tell is that it soothed her pain after applying and made her feel better. I am using the same body butter. It feels like a treat when I apply them every night. Mass retail brands are mostly adding preservatives one way or another to maintain a shelf life that makes sense to their bottom line. My products don’t. I don’t make them until someone needs it. No preservative is needed.
All the products in my shop are personally used by me and my friends and continue to be our preferred products.
Seeing things that I created are bringing joy to people, that itself can be some motivation.
